Ikoku Nikki
35-year-old novelist Makio Koudai and her 15-year-old niece Asa, who live together under one roof. Makio took Asa in on a sudden impulse after Asa's parents, which included Makio's older sister, passed away. The next day, Makio returns to her senses and remembers that she does not do well in the company of other people. So begins their daily life, as Makio attempts to acclimate to a roommate, while Asa attempts to get used to an adult that never acts like one.
Makio Koudai, romancière de 35 ans, et sa nièce Asa, âgée de 15 ans, vivent sous le même toit. Makio a accueilli Asa sur un coup de tête après le décès des parents de cette dernière, dont la sœur aînée de Makio. Le lendemain, Makio reprend ses esprits et se rappelle qu'elle a du mal à vivre en société. Ainsi commence leur quotidien : Makio tente de s'acclimater à sa nouvelle coloc, tandis qu'Asa essaie de s'habituer à une adulte qui ne se comporte jamais comme telle.

Lonely orphaned girl taken in by alienated, probably autistic aunt. Not so much a story as a meditation on grief, isolation and barely recognisable expressions of love.

Kind of dry slice of life anime or maybe that is what it was meant to be as the desert being the metaphor for loneliness through out this first episode. Not exactly my cup of tea but could appeal to others.
