Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei
Sayonara Zetsubō Sensei revolves around a very pessimistic high school teacher named Nozomu Itoshiki who tries to hang himself on a cherry blossom tree. Despite his best efforts, he is saved by a very optimistic girl known as Kafuka Fūra (whose real name is unknown). She explains to him that it is simply unforgiveable to hang himself on a day such a nice day, especially in front of such beautiful trees. She decides to nickname Nozomu, "Pink Supervisor", offering to pay him fifty yen to do so. After having enough of the strange girl, Nozomu bolts to the school and starts his homeroom class, but the attempt was in vain as he finds that the girl is one of his students.

Dark and hilarious. Want to see more before giving an opinion.

The title is translated as So Long Mr. Despair! The title character is a suicidal relentlessly pessimistic man who happens to a high school teacher. Of course, he discovers in the pilot that one of the schoolgirls in his class is a fanatical optimist who persistently rejects the fundamental tenents of his carefully thoughtout fatalistic philosphy spite of her own pecularly ditzy version of reality. First, she refuses to let him hang himself then she demands the right to rename him in her brand new naming scheme inspired by cherry blossoms and (this is my favourite part) offeres him 50 yen to change his mind when he balks. That kind of guerrilla assault on the bastons of existenialism is the perfect ballance between twisted irony and sheer silliness.

Another fine twisted summer anime where the concepts of pessimistism and optimism, hope and despair is challenged. Quick witten dialogue with word play on everything including characters names. Simply a twisted black comedy which may be not for everyone but speaks to everyone.

Great Dark Comedy. Unique almost graphic design style art. Humour is mostly spoken but there are some brilliant visual humour/puns.
