Fate/Zero
Fate/Zero

The Holy Grail War - A death-match between 7 magi (Masters) and their summoned heroic spirits (Servants) in which the prize is the legendary Holy Grail, said to have to power to grant miracles. This is now the 4th Holy Grail War. The 3 preceding Wars had ended without a victor. In pursuit of their individual goals and ambitions, the magi congregate at a place called Fuyuki. All the magi will do anything, rationalize away any atrocity, in pursuit of the Holy Grail. All of them, but one...
Kotomine Kirei is a mage, but one without a reason to fight. Unable to release himself from the threads of fate, he is drawn reluctantly into this War.
However, as fate would have it, one of his rival Masters turns out to be an old enemy, Emiya Kiritsugu, a man more severe and merciless than anyone else. A man who desires the miracles offered by the Holy Grail...

Can't wait to see the story get into high gear.

Well developed storyline. Artistry doesn't particularily stand out, but (it) isn't poor. Makes you ponder about whomyou should be rooting for. A little struggle at first to grasp the story, but everything is explained in the episode, which they jam pack it full and feels much longer than the episode actually is. Definitely makes you want to watch the next one.

Anime noir is fine if the plot is interesting, but thisjust a bunch of disconnected backstories that are all equally creepy. The Holy Grail War is suppose to be the unifying factor, but I can't work up a preference for which family I'd rather see win, especially since there's no point of view character and it's hard to keep track of who's who.

We watched the original Fate/Stay Night series years ago. Seeing the characters from that series as small children and knowing their future makes their fate even more tradgic. Mages fight on basis of lineage and status. Seeing the sins of the generations pass through this story makes me sad.

Kudos for handling the history of Grail Wars by having the young student research the information. It makes what most animes do -- boring dialogue or monologue -- as excitment of discovery through the eyes of youth.

Once again, we don't see all the players of this game. Oddly not all the same servants are in this prequel as they explained that summoning is based on having an item tied to that hero. We know this series ends badly for all. It is watching the train wreck that we have to watch but will we learn from the truth... that some wishes have too high of a price to quote JMS. It is more than worth to watch this tradgey which rarely gets made. We want good news shows but then ... we never learn anything from them.
