{"id":82,"date":"2006-05-07T22:04:15","date_gmt":"2006-05-08T03:04:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.animelondon.ca\/blog\/?p=82"},"modified":"2007-09-23T19:45:24","modified_gmt":"2007-09-24T00:45:24","slug":"immortality-on-a-map","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.animelondon.ca\/blog\/2006\/05\/07\/immortality-on-a-map\/","title":{"rendered":"Immortality on a Map"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>The following was from an email from a friend and artist of 4 Koma Project, Taral Wayne.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>It seems I may possibly have named some significant features of Titan.<\/p>\n<p>November last year, when a radar &#8220;photo&#8221; of large region of Titan known as Shangri-La was posted at JPL&#8217;s website, I recognized an amusing resemblance of some bright features to a map of Europe, and e-mailed JPL to suggest they name three of the features Great Britain, Gaul, and Hispania. Naturally I never heard back.<\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align: center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"306\" height=\"368\" title=\"Great Britian and Gaul\" alt=\"Great Britian and Gaul\" src=\"http:\/\/www.animelondon.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/great_britain_gaul.jpg\" \/><\/div>\n<p>To my surprise, today I found a recent detailed radar map of an area of Shangri-La around a crater like object called Shikoku Facula had been labelled Great Britain.<\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align: center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"194\" height=\"256\" title=\"Great Britian\" alt=\"Great Britian\" src=\"http:\/\/www.animelondon.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/great_britain.jpg\" \/><\/div>\n<p>No explanation. Perhaps a coincidence, or then again maybe my suggestions stuck. Should it develop that the other features are ever referred to as Gaul and Hispania, I think I can be reasonably sure I&#8217;m responsible. And unless I boast about it, nobody will ever know.
