Local club Dissent, 210 Dundas Street, London is having an anime theme for it’s Halloween dance. All ages, Prizes for costumes in theme. Cost $5.00 starting at 9 pm, October 30th.

Also Animenorth is having their Halloween dance at Japanese Canadian Cultural Center 6 Garmond Court, Don Mills, Ontario on October 29th. Starts at 7:30 and ends around 12:30 Doors open 7 pm; Last bus 1 am) Admission: $10 at door, JCCC Member – AN con Badge – TT con Badge $8. Alcohol-free event… pop, bottle water and pocky available. Another public service announcement…. If you’re waiting to see anime in theaters here as they do in Japan. Good luck. The only theater that is showing Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence in the Toronto area is in Markham. With such a poor choice of venue and pathetic single theater in a city which has redefine film industry and large anime fan base, this is horrendous. UTARPA has supplied us with the phone numbers of both DreamWorks (416) 513-0317 and Allied Advertising (416) 413-0557 for fans to call and complain.

Of course with Toronto having one theater outside Toronto, what chances is there for a London release? There is rumored that a theater will be carrying it. Though Rainbow Cinema won’t be carrying it for another 3 months. With a release date of October 29th, that will put it into January. If so, it will be part of the art films. Since Rainbow has showed both Tezuka’s Metropolis and Cowboy Bebop movie, the chances are high. Still it leaves me to wonder if the Appleseed 2004 movie will suffer the same fate. Please make your voice known.

When I originally received this charm from a friend’s relative, I had no clue of it’s meaning let alone what it represents. After a quick chat, I found that this tassled charm about the size of a dime was a ‘saru’ or ‘monkey’. ‘Saru’ in Japanese also means ‘go away’. So in the simplest terms this charm makes bad things go away. The only problem is the charm is so small, I’m afraid of it ‘going away’ so I keep it in a safe place.

I attended Sequential Art Festival in Toronto Oct 3rd. Small gathering but stll good. I manage to meet members from Toronto Comic Jam as well as others. I handed a bunch of the 4 Koma posters to hand out at their next meeting as well as some blank sheets for them to try 4 Koma Project. The next Sequential Art Festival event is October 24th, noon to 6pm, at OISE, U of T, 252 BLoor St. W, 7th Floor Toronto.
