Summer Season – Mecha – Argevollen VS Aldnoah.Zero

Aldnoah.Zero

Aldnoah.Zero

With vibes of Turn A Gundam and Code Geass, I’m liking this show though not a huge mecha fan. Aldnoah.Zero builds up to the obvious masterfully. They build up the background of the story in the background while setting up what will obviously happen in a bystander view of the main characters. It will be interesting how the main characters will fall into place in the second episode. Wish all (mecha) anime was this well written and produced.

I must admit this show stands out in the mecha genre of shows.  It puts humans into a drama from both sides of the conflict.  Students studying war, hoping for peace, getting neither.

Okay as mecha plots goes, rookie gains a new develop mecha and saves the day. What sets Argevollen apart is it’s M.A.S.H. supporting cast of characters which are acted with a sense of the voice actors has some real acting chops. They characters though as brief as they’re presented to the viewer seem believable. Not quite Break Blade which did the “unlikely hero” the best so far, Argevollen removes itself from the cliche Japanese theme song soundtrack.  Mechas move clumsy as they would under reasonable physics.

I’m giving a thumbs up on both shows for the first episodes.  It will take a few more to say where things will go.  I would recommend both to mecha and non-mecha viewers for now.
