Rich Dannys was the first artist I approached to do a 4
koma. For some reason, he chose HELL from the list. The day dragged on.
In spite of several interruptions, he got the panel done. Still it
left little time anything else. Rich is really nice guy and his art
work is wonderful.
He even threw in his sketchbook, Wang-Dang-Doodle! which is a mixture
of art, enjoyable for young and old collectors alike.
His site is www.geocities.com/kickassartists/rich/
I had originally approached Scott
Chantler about doing Crisis since the 4 koma was progressing toward
his style of art. "Call me crazy but I think I try Hell.", he said. Needless
I was surprise but who am I to argue with an artist. It was the first commission
I had done by Scott. I had him do a sketch
of one of his characters plugging
his book, Days Like These while mentioning a friend's comic shop
as a gift.
Sadly, I just missed him before he went into the Shuster Awards ceremony
... not expecting it to last two hours. When he finally emerge,
I finally got the 4 koma. Unfortunately by that time the rest of the artist
alley had left for the day.
This means this is the first 4 koma not to be finished at the event
started at but then .... HELL can wait. Still it's interesting that he
drew two book burners and country western singer as hell prize processions.
And wait it did ... until Comic Expo 2005. Sam Agro had
wanted to do a 4 koma since Fan Appreciation Event in April. He wanted
to do such a panel fresh .. first thing off before he got bogged down in
other commissions or tired from a long con. I had missed him at Paradise
con by showing Saturday. This time I made his booth the first one I visited.
Technically since he was at the con where this strip was started it only
seem fair to have him work on it. It paid off waiting with a solid panel.
Chris Yambar clipped his angel
wings for this final panel taking the clippers at right wing idealist.
I believe, that Christianity and politics are two opposites, I can't help
but notice that such unions of church in state maybe comical in some people's
eyes. In truth, believe does not lay in polictical boundaries of men but
infinite of the universe. I can't really condemn the expression of other
beliefs.
No doubt there are those who think this panel together is the belief
of ALL those who participated. In reality it was progression of art dealing
with a single topic. No doubt our views of Heaven
and Hell would fill many panels. None of which would be the same as the
other. |
