I must admit after two years of running The 4 Koma Project that it has been a resounding success with pro and up-and-coming artists alike. Yet, running around trying to get nearly 7 full 4 koma strips done in three days tiring. Though it is fun it does take alot of time out of a con. I'm not abandoning The 4 Koma Project but I am changing gears. Since I no longer have the means to print posters, I can't really showcase recent works at cons. What was encouraging that Dave DeVries of The Monster Engine loved the 4 Koma Project. Enough that he is going to try 4 koma with the children he teaches art. He thought the comic strip idea was excellent in teaching storytellin skills moung children. To this end, I supplied him with as many blank 4 koma pages I could give him. However by Sunday, I decided to return to original style of art challenge with a twist. Since we now have forums which uses small icon-like pictures called Avatars to represent a poster, I decided to update my avatar by challenging the same artists who have done 4 Koma in the past to come up with a new one. Using 4 koma pages as guides, I asked the artists t draw a new avatar that best suits myself and what I do at a con. Since all they see is me and my 4 koma strips, it wasn't surprising that alot of images were me with my panels. The results of the AVATAR Poject
Still I think this character sketching for people to use online a untapped way for artsts to make money at a con. I will be doing the 4 Koma Porject but also I'll be working on Avatars for various subjects in future cons.
