| I don't know what I was thinking when I asked Ghastly to
start up a 4 koma. Maybe because he looked like the 'infamous' character
of 50's style dad or as people refer to as 'Bob'.
Looking at his work of naughty but funny takes on anime 'cult'ure might
have something to do with it. Being the only panel this con in full colour.
His comedic styling in one panel carried the tone throughout the entire
strip.
Zen Rankin added to comedic demenor of the strip pulling back for a
full view of what the character was driving.
Andy B added to the strip with something that has puzzled me since
the start of the 4 koma project. Whenever I do a large con where my target
is 7 strips (28 panels) by the end of the con, there is ALWAYS a dog in
the third panel of one of the strips.
Looking at strip as it stood, I couldn't see a possible ending I asked
him what artists he tought could finished it.
He recommended Ramon Perez as a way of painting him in the corner. Ramon
manage to paint the last panel by tying all the previous panels into one
punchline.
However, another thing threatened to end this strip, pernamently.
As I handed a copy of the strip to Andy, I notice right across the
isle was a large ilustration of a dog faguely familar to the one drawn.
"you didn't use that dog as reference?" I asked.
"yes" was his response.
I was thinking this strip was toast as I try to make sure each artist's
rights are respected. I approached the booth to explain things.
Luckily, Bobby Chiu was understanding and allowed the strip to stand
as drawn. I insisted on crediting him on that panel. I found that
the Dog was based on his real dog, Major.Though I assume the real major
has a nicer demenour that the illustrated Major.
To see why Andy B. was SO imflenced by Bobby Chiu's work go to Art
of Bob to find out.
Strangely, I started out and finsihed with Bobs on this one and for
one reason or another ... a dog in the third panel of a 4 koma. |
